We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference and ignore the small daily difference we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee" – Marian Wright Edelman
Here’s a list of our achievements since June 2008
- We paid 60% of 25 girls’ school fees.
- Of those 25 girls, 11 graduated from secondary school in 2010.
6 of those girls qualified to attend university
Only 2 of those 9 girls’ mothers attended high school
- We conducted 3 small business training classes for parents and guardians of those 25 girls.
Out of 41 parents and guardians, 6 began operating small businesses such as scone baking, goat rearing, poultry projects and juice
making
- By the end of 2010, all of the parents had paid the remaining 40% of their daughters’ school fees plus all fees in arrears that had accumulated prior to their daughters’ participation in Just One Person.
- We conducted 11 afternoon workshops for the entire school population at 5 schools.
- We conducted 9 residential workshops for 25 girls that incorporated a structured 3 year life skills curriculum tailored to the needs of Kenyan adolescent girls.
- Our Kenyan program is directed by 2 highly qualified, volunteer staff members and a 6 person Board of Directors, all of whom are from the Kakamega District. Since 2009, our Kenyan partners have raised $964 from local donors.(click here to read the 2nd page of our report)
